Wisconsin State Czech-Slovak Queen Pageant

Each year candidates from all over the state of Wisconsin come to Phillips to compete for the title of Wisconsin Czech-Slovak Queen.   The winner of this competition represents the state of Wisconsin at the national competition in Wilber Nebraska the first weekend in August.  Ladies are judged in four categories:  Private interview; On stage interview, Kroj modeling (folk dress); and Talent.  (For more information and application forms).  Cash prizes, trophies and medallions are awarded to the chosen Queen, Princess (first runner-up), Kroj winners, and Talent winners.  The state pageant has served as an excellent vehicle for getting youth interested in their heritage.  The weekend is filled with events which keep the candidates busy.  Each candidate is assigned a “little sister” who “shadows” her during the weekend.  Many lasting friendships have been formed and some little sisters still hear from their candidates after several years.  See this link for more information on the National Competition.

Queen's Dinner ticket (at Club 13) can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce office for $15 for adults and $7.50 for children 7 and under.
